З’їзд Демократичної партії США офіційно висунув колишню першу леді і держсекретаря Хіларі Клінтон кандидатом на пост президента США.

Хілларі Клінтон стала першою жінкою в історії, яка виграла номінацію кандидатом на пост президента США, отримавши підтримку більшості демократів на з'їзді партії в Філадельфії.

Раніше, за підсумками праймеріз, Клінтон отримала необхідну кількість делегатівдля того, щоб бути номінованою єдиним кандидатом від Демократичної партії у президентських виборах.

Суперник Гілларі Клінтон у внутрішньопартійній боротьбі за президентську посаду сенатор-демократ від штату Вермонт Берні Сандерс публічно заявив про свою підтримку екс-держсекретаря США на подальших перегонах.
