Директор ЦРУ Майк Помпео заявив, що Росія впродовж десятиліть намагається підірвати американську демократію, передає BBC Україна.

В інтерв'ю телеканалу MSNBC він сказав, що РФ втручалася в американські вибори 2016 року, і назвав ці дії Москви "неоригінальними".

"Вони займаються цим впродовж шалено довгого часу. Десятиліттями Росія намагається підірвати американську демократію. Так що в деякому сенсі це не новина, але, зрозуміло, це акцентує увагу на нашій здатності зрозуміти, як їх зупинити", - відзначив Майк Помпео.

Помпео, проте, зауважив, що у нього немає доказів особистої причетності президента Росії Володимира Путіна до цього втручання.

Наразі конгрес США і ФБР ведуть розслідування щодо ймовірних спроб Росії вплинути на результат президентських виборів в США в 2016 році. Зокрема, хакерів, яких вважають пов'язаними з Кремлем, звинувачують в атаці на сервери Демократичної партії і публікації даних з них. Москва послідовно заперечує ці звинувачення.

Раніше повідомлялося, що Президент США Дональд Трамп звинуватив свого попередника Барака Обаму в бездіяльності в ситуації із втручанням Росії у вибори в США.
