Новий графічний роман про Ісуса Христа випустила студія Image Comics, яка прославилася серією коміксів про «Ходячих мерців».

За сюжетом новинки, спаситель людства від гріха став кривавим вбивцею під впливом жорстокого світу навколо. Як пише Daily Star, комікс отримав назву Jesusfreak. На сайці видавця розміщені зразки сторінок, на яких зображено, як месія рубає голови мечем своїм ворогам. «26 рік до нашої ери. Молодий тесляр з Назарета переживає труднощі з пристосуванням до насильницького світу навколо нього.

Він шукає своє місце в ньому. Він знає, що відрізняється він інших, але не знає чому. Принаймні поки що», - йдеться в рекламному матеріалі до коміксу.

Деякі критики запідозрили, що Image Comics хочуть спровокувати протести релігійних громад проти богохульства, щоб посилити продажі. «Jesusfreak не черпає натхнення з якоїсь жорсткої релігійної традиції і натомість більше звертає увагу на унікальну напругу, яка вникає між зображенням міфічних й історичних постатей.

І ця напруга особливо сильна, коли йдеться про персонажа, якого вважають і міфічним, і історичним водночас», - пояснив автор коміксу Джої Кесі.
