В Манчестере тысячи людей приговорили себя к 1000 часам общественных работ, потому что воспользовались «бесплатным» wi-fi, не дочитав до конца пользовательское соглашение.

Как пишет The Guardian, таковы результаты розыгрыша местного интернет провайдера Purple. Эксперимент продолжался на протяжении двух недель: при попытке подключиться к публичной wi-fi сети пользователям предлагалось согласиться с условиями пользовательского соглашения, в котором среди прочего мелким шрифтом указывалось, что подписавший соглашается на 1000 часов общественных работ, которые в том числе включают мытье туалетов в общественных местах, очистку поверхностей от жевательной резинки и прочистку канализационніх труб вручную.

Компания также предложила награду тому, кто все же прочел соглашение и убрал флажок возле сомнительного пункта. Оказалось, что из 22 000 участников эксперимента такую прозорливость проявил только один человек.

Подобный эксперимент в 2014 году проводили в Лондоне. Тогда компания F-Secure, специализирующаяся на кибербезопасности, предложила пользователям бесплатный wi-fi в обмен на их первенца. Хотя случай получил широкую огласку, шестеро людей до сих пользуются указанной точкой доступа.
