11-летней девочке удалось взломать сайт государственного секретаря Флориды и изменить опубликованные результаты выборов. Школьнице удалось это сделать всего за 10 минут. В результате взлома юный хакер в 3 раза увеличил количество голосов на сайте в пользу своего кандидата.

Эксперты подтвердили, что взлом был настоящим, но проделан лишь на копии государственного сайта в рамках 26-й конференции хакеров DEFCON. На конференции хакеры могли опробовать свои силы на машинах для голосования, считывателях смарт-карт, табуляторах и других системах, применяемых в выборном процессе в США.

В рамках мероприятия DEFCON для детей была создана отдельная комната, где они могли проявить свои навыки. Сайт для голосования взломали лишь двое ребят. Мальчику одногодке удалось проделать те же действия, но за 15 минут.

Конференция DEFCON при помощи участников позволяет обнаруживать новые уязвимости в машинах для голосования и одном электронном реестре избирателей. Выявленные проблемы позволяют разработчикам оперативно устранять их и поддерживать безопасность систем.

Чтобы успокоить американскую общественность, перед открытием DEFCON один из производителей машин для голосования выступил с заявлением и указал, что хотя участникам конференции будет предоставлен доступ к некоторым компонентам системы голосования, на самом деле повлиять на результаты выборов хакерам не так уж и просто.
