На сайті американської газети The New York Times випадково опублікували новину про плантації кавунів на Марсі. На це звернуло увагу видання Futurism.

В новині під назвою «На Марсі знайшли поля кавунів – поліція» повідомлялося наступне:

«Влада каже, що поява фруктових інопланетних фруктів винна в перенасиченні кавунами космічного простору. ФБР відмовилося коментувати повідомлення про проливні дощі з кавунів, але підтвердило, що були перехоплені ківі. Ця історія жахливо нудна».

Автор новини невідомий, в підписі до матеріалу значилося «Джо Шмо».

Вже через годину новину видалили з сайту, але пам'ять про неї залишилася в кеші Google. Тепер за посиланням на цю сторінку з'являється повідомлення, що новина «опублікована помилково».

Представник New York Times повідомив, що стаття призначалася для технічних робіт і тестування і була опублікована випадково.
