В Австралии разгорелся скандал из-за часов Rolex, которые членам нынешней партии власти во главе с экс-премьером Тони Эбботтом подарил китайский миллиардер.

Общая стоимость подарков – $250 тысяч, сообщает Эспрессо.TV со ссылкой на The Guardian.

Политики получили пакеты с "Ролексами" в июне 2013 года, когда Либеральная партия была в оппозиции. Сейчас они утверждают, что считали часы фальшивыми.

Китайский миллиардер Ли Рюпенг, который заработал свой капитал на лапше, приезжал в Австралию лоббировать свой бизнес. Во время обеда в здании парламента он подарил дизайнерские часы Rolex тогдашнему лидеру оппозиции Тони Эбботту и еще трем его соратникам.

Кроме того, Ли подарил часы жене Эбботта и жене представителя оппозиции по вопросам обороны, техники и науки Роберта Стюарта. Женщины не присутствовали на обеде. Бизнесмен назвал это жестом доброй воли.

Стюарт Роберт задекларировал подарок, но поскольку считал его фальшивкой, указал стоимость $300 - $500. Время от времени он носил часы. Клерки аппарата парламента установили, что стоимость часов стартует от $40 тысяч.
