У столиці Японії Токіо проходять вибори мера міста, після того як колишній міський голова був змушений піти у відставку після звинувачень у нецільовому витрачанні коштів.

Як повідомляє Російська служба Бі-бі-сі, на пост мера Токіо претендує 21 кандидат.

На думку аналітиків, найбільш реальні шанси зайняти посаду мера японської столиці є у трьох кандидатів: колишнього міністра уряду Хіроя Масуді, екс-міністра оборони Юріко Коїке, яка займала цей пост в 2007 році, і у телеведучого Сюнтаро Торігое.

Переможцю належить зайнятися підготовкою міста до Олімпійських ігор 2020 року.

Колишній мер Токіо Еіті Масудое пішов у відставку в червні, після того, як його звинуватили у фінансовій недобросовісності. Зокрема, чиновник витрачав гроші з публічних фондів на своїх дітей.

Масудое заперечував порушення закону, однак визнав, що його поведінка не завжди відповідало етичним нормам.
