Премьер-министр Испании Мариано Рахой призвал уйти в отставку президента Каталонии Карлеса Пучдемона, а также отказаться от проведения референдума о независимости.

Он также отметил, что испанское правительство никогда не признает законность данного референдума, сообщает Новое время со ссилкой на El Pais.

"Вернитесь к закону и демократии, откажитесь раз и навсегда от этой эскалации радикализма", - сказал Рахой.

Ранее власти Каталонии объявили о начале кампании за независимость от Испании, несмотря на резкую критику со стороны Мадрида, который называет его антиконституционным. 

16 сентября более 700 каталонских мэров вышли на демонстрацию в Барселоне в поддержку референдума о независимости Каталонии от Испании. Референдум планируют провести 1 октября.

20 сентября Мадрид взял на себя контроль над финансами Каталонии, чтобы предотвратить использование средств для проведения референдума о независимости.

Кроме того, полиция Испании провела рейд в девяти правительственных зданиях Каталонии по делу о подготовке референдума о независимости и задержала 12 чиновников. Среди задержанных "правая рука" вице-президента Каталонии Хосеп Мария Жове.
