Правящая Демократическая партия Италии и оппонирующие сторонники экс-премьера Сильвио Берлускони не смогли определить своих кандидатов в президенты накануне первого тура выборов президента Италии, назначенного на 29 января, пишет РИА Новости.

Пока известен один официальный кандидат в президенты республики. 71-летний журналист Витторио Фелтри выдвинут оппозиционными партиями «Лига Севера» и «Братья Италии».

Сильвио Берлускони вечером 28 января заявил, что консультации по кандидатурам еще продолжаются. Премьер-министр Маттео Ренци, возглавляющий итальянских демократов, назначил совещание своих однопартийцев по выбору претендента за полтора часа до начала первого тура голосования.

14 января 89-летний президент Италии Джорджо Наполитано ушел в отставку. По Конституции страны, высшее должностное лицо государства избирается парламентом Италии. Это происходит тайным голосованием на совместном заседании палат с участием представителей всех областей страны. Победитель должен получить более двух третей голосов собравшихся. Если три тура голосования пройдут безрезультатно, то в четвертую попытку президент избирается простым большинством голосов.
