Российский журналист Илья Азар 16 сентября на вручении премии "Человек года" произнес антипутинскую речь. Он стал "Журналистом года" по версии журнала GQ. Илья Азар поблагодарил за врученный ему титул и подчеркнул, что в первую очередь он благодарен бывшему главреду "Ленты.ру" Галине Тимченко и главреду "Эха Москвы" Алексею Венедиктову. Азар рассказал, что они дали ему возможность в это "невольное" для Украины время объективно отписывать события, которые происходят.

Кроме того, он отметил, что эту премию он расценивает не как личную, а как всех коллег, которые рискуют своей жизнью и ездят на Донбасс.

Журналист в своей речи отметил, что он просто отписывал то, что происходит в Украине и выразил надежду на то, что Путин прекратит агрессию против нее.

"Надеюсь, что Владимир Путин не будет больше посылать российских солдат и вооружения на Донбасс, украинская армия не будет бомбить города, а российские телеканалы не будут разжигать ненависть и врать по телевизору, и в следующем году премию получит замечательный кинокритик Долин или мой хороший приятель и отличный репортер Егор Мостовщиков".

Речь российского журналиста была вырезана из всех эфиров российских каналов.
