Выборы президента Австрии пройдут 24 апреля 2016 года. Соответствующую дату утвердил во вторник Совет министров Австрии, сообщают РИА Новости
В случае если потребуется проведение второго тура, он пройдет месяцем позже, 22 мая, отмечается в решении Совета.
В настоящий момент президентом страны является 77-летний Хайнц Фишер, занимающий эту должность с июля 2004 года. Социал-демократ Фишер, приостановивший членство в партии со вступлением в президентскую должность, занимает этот пост уже второй шестилетний срок.
Австрийская народная партия (OEVP) выдвинула своим кандидатом 75-летнего юриста Андреаса Коля (Andreas Khol), социал-демократы из SPOE на этот раз ставят на нынешнего министра по труду и социальным вопросам 65-летнего Рудольфа Хундшторфера (Rudolf Hundstorfer). Зеленые предлагают на президентскую должность своего бывшего лидера, 72-летнего экономиста Александра ван дер Беллена (Alexander van der Bellen), а единственная женщина в предвыборной гонке — независимый кандидат, бывшая председатель Верховного суда 70-летняя Ирмгард Грисс (Irmgard Griss).
Австрийская партия свободы, известная своими националистическими взглядами FPOE, которой на последних выборах — в столичный парламент — почти удалось свергнуть многолетнего лидера, в настоящее время своего кандидата еще не представила.
