Бывший президент африканского государства Чад Хиссен Хабре признан виновным в преступлениях против человечности решением Военного трибунала, заседающим в Сенегале.

Cпециальный суд приговорил бывшего военного правителя Чада к пожизненному заключению после того, как объявил его виновным в преступлениях против человечества, пытках и сексуальном рабстве, сообщает Новое время

Вердикт, который суд вынес в понедельник, 30 мая, увенчал 16-летнюю битву жертв и активистов-правозащитников за привлечение экс-лидера к ответственности в Сенегале, куда он сбежал после того, как был свергнут в результате государственного переворота в 1990 году.

Правозащитники утверждают, что 72-летний Хабре несет ответственность за гибель 40 тысяч человек во время его правления в период с 1982 по 1990 года. Он был задержан в Дакаре в июле 2013 года.
