Позен пояснив, що підхід Трампа "до світової економіки, що полягає в торгових війнах і захисті неконкурентоспроможних галузей, стане катастрофою для економічного добробуту американців і національної безпеки".

У той же час дослідники скептично поставилися до поглядів на економіку Хілларі Клінтон, особливо розкритикувавши її негативне ставлення до Транс-Тихоокеанського партнерства.

На думку аналітиків інституту Петерсона, найбільше може постраждати переробна промисловість у таких штатах, як Вашингтон, де знаходиться штаб-квартира Boeing, і такі міста, як Лос-Анджелес, у порт якого прибуває велика частина товарів, що поставляються з Китаю.

Також США можуть зіткнутися з дефіцитом товарів, що випускаються в Китаї, включаючи продукцію Apple. "IPhone може стати секретною зброєю Китаю. Втрати Китаю при цьому будуть мінімальні, проте припинення поставок компанії Apple суттєво позначиться на наявності й призведе до зростання цін на улюблену споживачами продукцію", - йдеться в доповіді.
