Лидер европарламентской фракции социалистов немец Мартин Шульц стал новым председателем Европарламента (ЕП). Его кандидатуру поддержали большинством голосов парламентарии на первой сессии ЕП в Страсбурге, сообщает "Зеркало Недели".

Голосование носило формальный характер, так как ранее крупнейшие фракции ЕП - Европейская народная партия (ЕНП), социалисты и либералы - договорились о создании парламентской коалиции. ЕНП и либералы не стали выдвигать своих кандидатов на пост председателя. Вышеперечисленным трем политическим группам принадлежит абсолютное большинство голосов - 412 из 751.

Таким образом, Шульц будет возглавлять ЕП в течение ближайших 2,5 лет.

Напомним, президент Европейского парламента Мартин Шульц подал в отставку. Такое решение было принято в Брюсселе 18 июня, сообщает пресс-служба Европарламента. Причиной отставки стало избрание политика главой группы социалистов и демократов в Европарламенте.

Мартин Шульц - немецкий политик, член Партии европейских социалистов, депутат Европарламента с 1994 года. Председатель Европарламента 17 января 2012 года - 18 июня 2014 года. С 18 июня 2014 года Мартин Шульц - лидер группы социалистов и демократов в Европейском парламенте, в связи с чем оставил должность президента ЕП.
