У проросійських телеграм-каналах шириться відео з логотипом американського медіа USA Today, в якому стверджується, що в Чикаго нібито затримали українця під час спроби підпалу ресторану «МакДональдз». Мовляв, він намагався це зробити на знак протесту через можливе повернення мережі до Росії. 

Це — фейк. USA Today не публікувало подібного відео — ані на своєму сайті, ані в соціальних мережах. Про це повідомляє Укрінформ.

Відео є монтажем: воно складене з випадкових фотографій «МакДональдзів» у США та Росії, знайдених у відкритому доступі.

Крім того, твердження про повернення «МакДональдзу» до Росії не відповідає дійсності. Цю дезінформацію почали поширювати російські пропагандистські медіа. Проте сама компанія офіційно спростувала такі заяви: після початку повномасштабного вторгнення в Україну «МакДональдз» призупинив роботу в Росії, а 16 травня 2022 року повністю вийшов з російського ринку, продавши бізнес.

Мета подібних вкидів — дискредитація українських біженців за кордоном. Російська пропаганда намагається сформувати у західної аудиторії образ «агресивного українця», що не відповідає реальності, і посіяти недовіру до українців у країнах, які надають їм підтримку.
