У четвер, 12 січня, президент США Барак Обама нагородив віце-президента Джо Байдена президентською медаллю Свободи з відзнакою.

"Джо, за твою віру в співвітчизників, за любов до батьківщини та за довгу службу, яку пам'ятатимуть покоління, - в останній раз в якості президента оголошую про присудження найвищої нагороди, медалі Свободи", - заявив Обама.

Він також назвав Байдена "найкращим віце-президентом, якого ми коли-небудь бачили".

Віце-президент у свою чергу зазначив, що йому пощастило "бути попутником чудової людини, яка робила чудові речі".
