Бывший премьер-министр Италии Сильвио Берлускони вновь оказался под следствием из-за возможной причастности к мафиозным структурам, которые терроризировали страну почти четверть века назад.

Прокуратура Флоренции вновь открыла дело, получив записи разговоров босса мафии Джузеппе Гравиано, в которых он упоминает имя политика.

По версии следствия, Берлускони приказывал мафии совершать акты насилия в своих политических целях. Речь идет, в частности, о терактах в Риме, Милане и Флоренции, в результате которых в 1993 году погибли 10 человек.

В этом деле против Берлускони уже дважды велись расследования, однако их останавливали из-за нехватки доказательств.

В 2013 году Берлускони приговорили к семи годам лишения свободы за злоупотребление должностными полномочиями и интимную связь с несовершеннолетней танцовщицей Каримой эль-Маруг (Руби) из Марокко. Позднее апелляционный суд отменил приговор Берлускони, а в 2015 году это решение подтвердил Верховный суд Италии.

В 2014 году политика также приговорили к четырем годам заключения по делу о мошенничестве в компании Mediaset, но затем наказание было заменено общественными работами наказание общественными работами. В 2015 году суд Неаполя приговорил Берлускони к 20 месяцам лишения свободы за коррупцию, однако отбывать срок ему не пришлось из-за истечения срока давности.

Сильвио Берлускони занимал пост премьер-министра Италии в 1994, с 2001 по 2006 и с 2008 по 2011 год.
