Під час урочистої церемонії в Будинку конгресів в Баден-Бадені колишньому президенту США Бараку Обамі вручили Премію німецьких ЗМІ за 2017 рік, передає DW.

Отримуючи премію, Обама висловив задоволення тим, що німецьке журі, на відміну від комісії, яка роздає Нобелівську премію миру, дочекалося, поки він піде з поста глави держави.

Колишній президент ФРН Йоахім Ґаук у вітальній промові назвав 55-річного Обаму мужнім політиком.

"Ні, ви аж ніяк не далекий від світу цього ідеаліст", - сказав Ґаук.

Засновник премії Карлгайнц Кеґель охарактеризував Обаму як талановитого політичного посередника і громадянина світу, який залучав людей до своєї мрії про кращий світ.

Премію німецьких ЗМІ присуджують з 1992 року особам, які, на думку журі, значно вплинули на суспільство або політичне життя. Лауреатами премії, яка не має грошового вираження, раніше ставали Пан Гі Мун, який обіймав на той момент посаду генерального секретаря ООН, канцлерка ФРН Анґела Меркель і американський кіноактор Джордж Клуні.
