Известная американская журналистка, публицист, лауреат Пулитцеровской премии, редактор The Economist и член издательского совета The Washington Post Энн Эплбаум получила престижную Премию Фонда Омеляна и Татьяны Антоновичей, пишет "Укринформ".

Церемония награждения состоялась в субботу в Посольстве Украины в Вашингтоне.

"На самом деле, мало кто из нас имеет возможность чувствовать боль других людей и рассказывать об этом. Я думаю, что Энн Эплбаум – одна из немногих, которая является носителем этого таланта", – отметил член отборочного комитета Фонда (который определяет победителей) директор Украинского научного института Гарвардского университета профессор Сергей Плохий.

Он подчеркнул, что главную роль в присуждении награды Энн Эплбаум сыграло "освещение ею исторических событий в Украине и процессов, которые происходят сейчас в международной прессе, а также, что главным ориентиром в её исторических трудах остается поиск правды".

Энн Эплбаум является автором таких книг как "Гулаг", "Железный занавес" и "Красный голод". Последняя, которая рассказывает о Голодоморе в Украине, увидела свет этой осенью, впрочем, Фонд принял решение о награде еще до выхода этой монографии.

"Существует относительно небольшое количество людей, которая могла бы говорить профессионально об этих событиях, передавать факты широкой публике так, чтобы это вызвало доверие и понимание. Энн Эплбаум – одна из немногих авторов этой высшей лиги", – отметил профессор Плохий.
