"Зачем нам все эти люди из Африки? Эти страны - грязные дыры. Нам надо больше людей из Норвегии", - заявил Трамп 9 января во время закрытой части переговоров относительно миграционного законопроекта с участием конгрессменов из Демократической и Республиканской партий.

Представительница Палаты представителей Конгресса США от Республиканской партии Миа Лав, дочь иммигрантов из Гаити, назвала комментарии Дональда Трампа "злыми, такими, что сеют вражду, высокомерными и такими, что противоречат ценностям нашей нации". Она призвала его извиниться перед американским народом за "неприемлемое" поведение.

Конгрессмен-демократ Седрик Ричмонд, который возглавляет Черный кокус Конгресса, куда входят афроамериканські законодатели, заявил, что видит в последнем высказывании американского президента "очередное подтверждение его невежественных и нетактичних в расовом отношении взглядов".
