Британцы, у которых есть киприотские корни, стали обращаться в дипломатические представительства Республики Кипр за получением гражданства..

В местном Департаменте иммиграции заявили, що в среднем получают в день до 300 подобных заявлений, сообщает DW со ссылкой на кипрскую телекомпанию RIK.

Руководитель союза киприотов, живущих в Великобритании, рассказал журналистам, что о паспортах сегодня ходатайствуют даже выходцы с Кипра, которые уже в четвертом поколении живут в Соединенном Королевстве. Большинство из них совершенно "англизировалось".

Предположительно, они просто хотели бы иметь паспорт страны ЕС, который позволит им свободно перемещаться внутри объединенной Европы, в случае выхода Великобритании из Евросоюза.

На быстрое получение кипрского гражданства может расчитывать любой британец, который сможет доказать, что его родители или предыдущее поколение прямых родственников были киприотами.
