Австралійського політика українського походження Метью Гайя під час голосування 4 грудня було обрано лідером Ліберальної партії, що робить його лідером опозиції країни. Про це повідомляє VIDIA із посиланням на Австралійську федерацію українських організацій (АФУО).

«Ми щиро вітаємо парламентаря Метью Гая з перемогою у якості лідера опозиції, — йдеться у зверненні АФУО. — Метью Гай пишається своїм українським походженням і всіляко підтримує демократизацію та незалежність України, а також українську спільноту Австралії».

«У розпал Майдану він підіймав український прапор у Парламенті штату Вікторії, і він заслужив свою нову посаду наполегливою працею, відданістю та стратегічним баченням», — зазначено у повідомленні.

Метью Гай — австралійський політик, член Вікторіанської законодавчої ради від Ліберальної партії. З 2010 року є міністром планування в штаті Вікторія. Метью Гай одружений, має трьох дітей. Він українського походження — сім’я його матері покинула Радянський Союз у 1949 році.
