Ассоциация тенниса Соединенных Штатов принесла свои извинения после того, как на проходившем на Гавайях матче Кубка Федерации между командами США и Германии была исполнена старая версия германского гимна, которая начинается со слов "Германия превыше всего", сообщает ВВС

Исполнение гимна предваряло матч первого круга между Андреей Петкович, представлявшей Германию, и американкой Алисон Риске.

"Этот эпизод абсолютно возмутителен и оскорбителен, - заявила Петкович. - Это худшее, что со мной происходило, особенно на Кубке Федерации".

"Песня о Германии" стала официальным гимном Веймарской республики в 1920-х годах, однако после Второй мировой войны ее первый куплет со словами "Германия превыше всего" стал исключаться при исполнении германского гимна, который начинается теперь с третьего куплета во славу "единства, правосудия и свободы".

В заявлении американской теннисной ассоциации говорится, что она искренне сожалеет об исполнении старой версии гимна и приносит извинения спортсменам и болельщикам. В заявлении подчеркивается, что эта ошибка не повторится.

Кубок Федераций является крупнейшим международным командным соревнованием в женском теннисе. Матч между Петкович и Риске завершился победой американки со счетом 7-6, 6-2.
