Криптовалюта Dogecoin, яка була заснована як пародія на Bitcoin і названа в честь собаки-мема, коштує на валютному ринку близько 1,2 мільярда доларів. Про це повідомляє The Independent.

Dogecoin був заснований в 2013 році і отримав назву в честь інтернет-мема Doge із зображенням собаки породи Сіба-іну.

За місяць вартість Dogecoin зросла в п'ять разів і зараз становить близько 1,2 мільярда доларів. В той же час одна монетка коштує менше долара.

Зазначається, що стрімке зростання ціни Dogecoin пов'язане з тим, що інтерес до нього зростає.

Засновник криптовалюти-пародії на Bitcoin Джексон Палмер зазначив, що "це багато говорить про стан криптовалютного простору взагалі, якщо валюта з зображенням на ній собаки, яка два роки не випускала оновлення програмного забезпечення, має ринкову вартість у розмірі 1 млрд доларів".

Він додав, що той факт, що більшість розмов про криптовалюту в ЗМІ стосується інвестицій і можливості заробляти гроші, "відволікає увагу від базової технології і цілей, на яких було засновано це рух"
