Республике Марий Эл в поселке Шелангер открыли памятник Сталину. Монумент установлен перед административным зданием совхоза "Звениговский". Высота скульптуры без постамента составляет около трех метров, сообщает Радио Свобода.

Совхоз "Звениговский" возглавляет Иван Казанков, руководитель республиканского комитета Коммунистической партии России. Как сообщает пресс-служба комитета, "интерес к И. В. Сталину возрос в последнее время, когда Россия переживает не лучшие времена, связанные с падением промышленного производства и санкциями, объявленными нам странами Запада".

Открытие памятника Сталину произошло на фоне обострившейся предвыборной борьбы в регионе. Накануне губернатор республики Марий ЭлЛеонид Маркелов на встрече с жителями поселка Шимшурга пригрозил им "перекопать дорогу" – из-за оказанного ему "плохого приема". В открытии памятника Сталину принял участие конкурент Маркелова на предстоящих выборах главы региона, депутат Госдумы от КПРФ Сергей Мамаев.
