У Португалії в неділю, 24 січня, відбуваються президентські вибори. Їхнім фаворитом вважають чинного президента країни Марселу Ребелу де Соузу. За даними опитувань, 72-річний політик здобуде перемогу вже в першому турі, йому прогнозують від 55-ти до 70 відсотків голосів, повідомляє агентство dpa. 

Конкурентами де Соузи є шестеро політиків, серед яких засновник правопопулістської партії "Годі" Андре Вентура та ексдепутатка від Соціалістичної партії Ана Гомеш.

Вибори проходять на тлі пандемії COVID-19. Кількість нових випадків зараження на 100 тисяч жителів за сім днів останнім часом сягала 750 - це один з найвищих показників у світі. Втім, голосування в країні все одно вирішили провести попри заклики до перенесення виборів. Очікують, що явка через пандемію буде найнижчою в історії країни - приблизно 30 відсотків. 

Після закриття виборчих дільниць будуть оголошені дані екзитполів. Результати виборів стануть відомими вже в ніч на 25 січня.

Президент Португалії має досить широкі повноваження. Він може ветувати закони, а також розпускати парламент та призначати нові вибори. Де Соуза переміг у першому турі на попередніх виборах президента Португалії в січні 2016 року.
