Чилійська опозиція запустила процедуру імпічменту президента Себастьяна Піньєри через імовірні порушення під час продажу гірничодобувної компанії. Їх виявили завдяки розслідуванню Pandora Papers. Про це
пише The Guardian.
У 2010 році родина президента продала свою частку у проєкті копальні Домінґа його близькому другу і партнеру Карлосу Альберто Делано. Проте дані Pandora Papers містять докази того, що в угоді був пункт, який вимагав від чилійської влади не посилювати охорону довкілля довкола копальні. Натомість сам президент усі звинувачення відкидає.
Розслідування цієї справи вже розпочала прокуратура країни. Правоохоронці перевіряють, чи не було в угоді з продажу копальні корупції або махінацій із податками.
Процедуру імпічменту в Чилі спершу має схвалити нижня палата парламенту. Відповідне голосування може відбутися перед виборами 21 листопада. Якщо депутати ініціативу підтримають, голосування має відбутися й у верхній палаті парламенту. Там за імпічмент мають проголосувати дві третини депутатів.
71-річний правоцентристський політик Піньєра є главою держави з 2018 року. Також він обіймав цей пост у 2010-2014 роках.
Незабаром у країні відбудуться нові вибори президента та парламенту, тому розслідування Pandora Papers може стати ударом для правоцентристів у країні. Соцопитування свідчать, що ліві сили в Чилі мають усі шанси покращити свої позиції після виборів.
