Підрахунок знаків скасовується, коли користувач додає медіадодатки – фотографії, відеоролики, GIF-файли і цитати. Правило 140 символів також перестає діяти у відповідях на твіти, позначені символом @ім'я.

Нові твіти, які починаються з цього символу, зможуть бачити всі фоловери. Кнопка Retweet активується таким чином, що дозволяє користувачам повторно ділитися власними повідомленнями і цитатами.

Мета цих нововведень полягає в тому, щоб спростити життя користувачам і зробити повідомлення більш осмисленими. Всі нові функції запрацюють в найближчі місяці. Компанія прагне до того, щоб розробники додатків для третіх сторін могли відповідним чином адаптувати свої продукти.

Twitter пішов на зміни правил користування заради залучення нових користувачів, число яких, на думку компанії, зростає недостатніми темпами.
