Глава Кремля Володимир Путін на тлі пам’ятника Другій світовій війні звернувся до росіян і попросив проголосувати за запропоновані поправки до Конституції РФ, що дозволять йому «обнулити» свої президентські терміни. Путін, зокрема, порівняв рішення підтримати своє «обнулення» з піклуванням про свою родину, і заявив, що росіян «об’єднують правда і справедливість».

«Ми голосуємо за країну, заради якої працюємо і хочемо передати нашим дітям й онукам. Тому упевнений – кожен з вас, ухвалюючи таке важливе рішення, думає насамперед про своїх близьких, опираються на цінності, які нас об’єднують – а це правда і справедливість», – сказав він. Крім того, російський президент знову згадав про історію періоду Другої світової й натиснув на почуття патріотизму. «Саме на нашій відповідальності, щирому патріотизму, турботі за Батьківщину тримається суверенітет, так само як і на повазі до своєї історії, культури, до рідної мови, традицій, до нашої пам’яті на досягненнях наших предків», – додав він. 9 травня в Росію (рос.) Путін також зазначив, що голосування триває кілька днів через нібито «продиктоване бажання захистити здоров’я людей». «Завтра 1 липня – основний день для голосування. Прошу вас, дорогі друзі, сказати своє слово», – звернувся Путін.
