Выборы нового президента состоятся 1 июля.

Выдвинутый европейскими социалистами на должность президента Европейской комиссии известный немецкий политик и экс-президент Европарламента Мартин Шульц, избран лидером группы социалистов и демократов в Европейском парламента, в связи с чем оставил должность президента ЕН, передает УНИАН.

Решение об избрании Шульца лидером политической группы было принято сегодня в Брюсселе.Одновременно Европарламент возглавила первый вице-президент Джанни Питтелла, это он подтвердил на своей странице в Facebook.

Выборы нового президента ЕП состоятся 1 июля в Страсбурге во время инаугурационной сессии с участием нового состава парламента. Выборы в Европарламент состоялись в конце мая.

Шульц известен своей активной позицией в отношении Украины. Именно он был инициатором создания миссии наблюдателей ЕП в составе экс-президента Польши Александра Квасневского и экс-президента Европарламента Пэта Кокса, в частности в деле экс-премьера Юлии Тимошенко.
