Хакери отримали незаконний доступ до контактних даних популярних користувачів, зокрема, адрес електронної пошти і номерів телефонів, використовуючи помилку у програмному інтерфейсі Instagram. Уразливість не торкнулася паролів та іншої конфіденційної інформації. Також користувачів запевнили, що вона вже вирішена. 

В Instagram також відмовилися розкривати імена користувачів, що постраждали від атаки, проте зазначили, що злам був спрямований на власників акаунтів з великою кількістю передплатників.
