Джо Байден пообещал выбрать женщину в качестве вице-президента, если он победит на выборах.

Об этом пишет британское издание The Guardian.

“Есть ряд женщин, которые имеют право быть президентом завтра. Я бы выбрал женщину, чтобы назначить моим вице-президентом”, – сказал Байден во время первых президентских дебатов один на один с Берни Сандерсом.

Издание отмечает, что прошло более 35 лет с тех пор, как в последний раз женщина была кандидатом в президенты от Демократической партии. Это было в 1984 году, когда конгрессмен от штата Нью-Йорк Джеральдин Ферраро проводила предвыборную кампанию вместе с сенатором из Миннесоты Уолтером Мондейлом, который проиграл тогда Рональду Рейгану.

Байден также повторил свое обещание назначить в Верховный суд афроамериканку, которая станет первой в истории страны.
