Речниця Білого дому Керолайн Лівітт підтвердила журналістам, що Маск офіційно приєднався до адміністрації президента США.

Як пише медіа, цей статус дозволяє Маску працювати на федеральний уряд, але потенційно уникати зобовʼязання повідомляти про конфлікти інтересів і фінанси, яке стосується звичайних держслужбовців. Маск і надалі керуватиме компанією-виробником електромобілів Tesla й аерокосмічною компанією SpaceX. Як гендиректор SpaceX Маск керує контрактами компанії з Пентагоном і розвідувальними службами, які оцінюються в мільярди доларів, пише Reuters.

Водночас він очолить ініціативу президента США Дональда Трампа зі скорочення витрат під назвою Департамент ефективності уряду, пише агентство.

Один з високопосадовців Білого дому зазначив, що Маск не отримує заробітної плати від уряду і діє в межах закону.

Спеціальні держслужбовці призначаються на термін не більш ніж 130 днів, пише Reuters, але Трамп не уточнив, як довго Маск залишатиметься на посаді.

Як пише видання USAToday, хоча раніше президент Дональд Трамп призначив Маска очолити новий Департамент ефективності уряду, але досі Маск формально не був федеральним службовцем.
