В Китае потратят 23,9 миллиона долларов на то, чтобы перенести в другое место 58-метровую бронзовую статую легендарного военачальника Гуань Юя в городском округе Цзинчжоу. Строительство монумента стоило немногим больше — 26,3 миллиона. Памятник перенесут на восемь километров, потому что он не нравится местным жителям и нарушает правила высотности района, пишет South China Morning Post.

Монумент построили в 2016 году. Его хотели внести в Книгу рекордов Гиннеса как самую большую бронзовую статую генерала в мире. Чтобы попытаться зафиксировать достижение, авторам пришлось искать лазейку в законе.

В районе Цзинчжоу, где поставили памятник, запрещено возводить сооружения выше 24 метров. Но подрядчики получили разрешение на строительство постамента, а статую задекларировали как произведение искусства — его установку не нужно согласовывать.

Местные жители и правительство раскритиковали проект. Его назвали расточительным и тщеславным. Кроме того, китайцы считаю, что статуя уничтожила аутентичную культуру и характер Цзинчжоу как исторического города.
