Организаторы фестиваля Capture Photo разместили в Ванкувере серию из семи билбордов с работами фотохудожника Стивена Ширера. На них изображены спящие люди. Канадцы приняли их за покойников и потребовали убрать рекламные щиты из города. Билборды пришлось заклеить, они провисели неделю, не дождавшись открытия фестиваля, пишет Artnet.

По задумке Ширера, фотографии спящих должны напомнить религиозные сцены — люди испытывают экстаз и будто бы парят в космосе, освободившись от земных оков. 

На одном из снимков изображена женщина, откинувшаяся на сиденье в машине и пристегнутая ремнем безопасности. На другом — мужчина с голым торсом, лежащий на земле. Этот билборд, например, был размещен прямо над велопарковкой. Жители города посчитали такую локацию неуместной.

Эмми Ли Уолл, куратор Capture Photo, увидела в скандале положительные моменты. Она расценила его как «возможность сделать паузу и подумать о роли паблик-арта в городе, о том, как можно уравновесить общественную озабоченность со свободой творчества».

Уолл считает, что реакция на билборды «показывает, что они становятся все более актуальными». Стивен Ширер отказался комментировать произошедшее
