Новий звіт аналітичної організації Freedom House показує зменшення інтернет-свободи.
 

Яке пише The Verge, звіт Freedom House показує, що сучасні уряди прагнуть більшого контролю над даними користувачів та використовують закони, які призначені начебто проти «фейкових новин» для придушення свободи слова. Восьмий рік поспіль організація відзначає зниження рівня інтернет-свободи.

«Нагальна тема для обговорень — це те, що інтернет, який колись розглядався як простір свободи, зараз використовується для шкоди демократії, а не для дестабілізації диктаторських режимів, — каже Майк Абрамовіч (Mike Abramowitz), президент Freedom House. — Пропаганда та дезінформація отруює цифрову сферу, а авторитарні режими та популісти використовують боротьбу проти фейкових новин для того, щоб засадити в тюрму журналістів і критиків. Для цього часто використовують закони покликані протидіяти поширенню фальшивої інформації».

З 65 досліджуваних країн 17 ухвалили закони щодо обмежень онлайн-медіа. З них 13 виступили з обвинуваченнями до громадян, які нібито поширювали фейкову інформацію. Більше країн використовують технології Китаю, що Freedom House називає експортом системи цензури та нагляду.

Також у дослідженні наголошують, що 32 країни використовують проплачених коментаторів, ботів і тролів, щоб маніпулювати онлайн-дискусіями. Більш популярними для маніпуляцій стали закриті месенджери, приміром, WhatsApp.

Нагадаємо, раніше «Детектор медіа» писав, що в Чехії набирає популярності рух «ельфів» проти російських інтернет-тролів.
