За даними Reuters, 13 осіб загинули та більше 100 отримали поранення. Водій афтомобіля зміг втікти з місця теракту й його зараз розшукують правоохоронці

Після того, як інформація про теракт почала поширюватися в мережі, користувачі Twitter ініціювали флешмоб: вони закликали не викладати фото з місця події в мережу й таким чином не надавати терористам інформацію про постраждалих, наслідки атаки та пересування поліції. Також у Twitter закликають виявити повагу до жертв теракту й не публікувати їх фото в мережу. Натомість люди постять фото котів з хештегами #Barcelona та #lasRamblas й словами підтримки.

Нагадаємо, раніше члени сімей трьох жертв теракту в каліфорнійському місті Сан-Бернардіно подали до суду на три великі технологічні компанії - Facebook, Google і Twitter. Позивачі вважають, що Facebook, Twitter та Google дозволили ISIS комунікувати та поширювати свої ідеї в соцмережах і на платформі YouTube. Без використання найбільших соціальних мереж зростання кількості прихильників ISIS та перетворення її на «найнебезпечнішу терористичну організацію» були б неможливими.

Також Європейське поліцейське управління повідомило про виявлення медіаплатформи, яку створюють ісламісти для поширення пропаганди.
