У суботу, 3 червня, на Мальті розпочалося голосування на дострокових виборах до парламенту, повідомляє MaltaToday.

"Мальта проводить вибори сьогодні, виборчі дільниці відкриваються о 7 ранку і (будуть працювати - ред.) до 10 вечора безперервно", - йдеться у повідомленні.

Зазначається, що вибори розпочалися після 33-денної виборчої кампанії

За інформацією ЗМІ, лідер Лейбористської партії та чинний прем’єр-міністр Мальти Джозеф Мускат сподівається зберегти владу, отриману на виборах 2013 року. Його головним суперником є лідер опозиції Саймон Басаттіл.

Загалом, 209 кандидатів боротимуться за місця в 65 округах країни.

Як повідомляє видання, результати голосування оприлюднять у неділю вранці.

1 травня прем'єр-міністр Мальти Джозеф Мускат оголосив про проведення 3 червня дострокових парламентських виборів.

Прем'єр-міністр звинувачує опозицію у поширенні брехні проти нього та підриві політичної і економічної стабільності Мальти. Мускату загрожує кримінальне розслідування, яке також стосується його дружини і міністра енергетики країни Конрада Мізі. Їх імена пов'язані з "офшорним скандалом".

Наступні парламентські вибори мали відбутися у 2018 році.
