Албанський парламент не зміг обрати нового президента після того як правляча Соціалістична партія вирішила не висувати свого кандидата у першому турі голосування.

Про це повідомляє Європейська правда  з посиланням на Euractiv.

"Ми не запропонували жодного кандидата з метою продемонструвати нашу волю до діалогу з опозицією щодо нового президента з метою досягти консенсусу з усіма політичними силами Албанії" - сказав спікер албанського парламенту Ілір Мета.

Албанська опозиція бойкотує роботу парламенту з середини лютого, закликаючи уряд підготувати вільні і чесні вибори.

Згідно з конституцією Албанії, кандидат може бути обраний президентом Албанії за підтримки 84 з 140 депутатів – більшості, яку має правляча коаліція.

Другий тур президентських виборів в Албанії має пройти 20 квітня.

Якщо президента не оберуть протягом п’яти раундів голосування, парламент має бути розпущено і призначено нові вибори.

Парламентські вибори мають пройти 18 червня, однак опозиція вже погрожувала їх бойкотувати.
