НАТО обвинило российские медиакомпании в дезинформации, масштаб которой значительно возрос после аннексии Россией Крыма в 2014 году. В качестве компаний, активно распространяющих фейки НАТО назвали  Sputnik и RT. Об этом сообщило агентство Reuters, со ссылкой на официального представителя НАТО Оана Лунгеску.

В качестве примера дезинформации, Лунгеску привела опубликованное российским сайтом life.ru сообщение о якобы розыгрыше пранкерами генсека НАТО Йенса Столтенберга. Они говорили с ним якобы от имени украинского президента Петра Порошенко.  

"Такого разговора никогда не было и это типичный пример дезинформации", - сказала Лунгеску. 

Еще один пример дезинформации, по ее словам публикация в июле 2016 года Sputnik, RT и другими российскими сайтами новости о пожаре на базе НАТО в Измире, назвав его намеренным саботажем после попытки госпереворота в Турции. "Мы связались со Sputnik, RT и другими, чтобы внести исправить новость, поскольку пожар возник в лесу на расстоянии от базы и не имел к ней никакого отношения", - сказала Лунгеску.

С 2014 года на сайте альянса "собраны 32 российских мифа о НАТО", которые систематически используются в материалах Sputnik, RT и ряда других СМИ, находящихся во владении или под контролем российского правительства.
