Федеральний президент Німеччини Йоахім Ґаук не висуватиме свою кандидатуру на другий термін. Про це він заявив у понеділок, 6 травня, у своїй берлінській резиденції палаці Бельвю, повідомляє Deutsche Welle.

"Сьогодні хочу повідомити, що я вирішив не висувати знову свою кандидатуру на посаду федерального президента", - сказав він.

"Це рішення далося мені нелегко", - зауважив Ґаук. Причиною такого рішення він назвав свій поважний вік. 76-річний політик наголосив, що для нього - честь служити своїй країні та він з радістю робитиме це в наступні місяці - до 17 березня 2017 року. Наступні вибори президента в Німеччині заплановані на осінь 2017-го.
