44-й президент США Барак Обама уходит. Вместе с ним Белый дом покидает его личный фотограф Пит Соуза. «Телекритика» разбиралась, кто постоянно находился за кадром фотографий президента.
Барак Обама танцевал со штурмовиками, пел песни, выступал со стендапами. Он полностью изменил наше представление о политиках и вывел публичные коммуникации на новый уровень. Помимо всего прочего, это стало возможно и благодаря работе Пита Соузы, чьи фотографии регулярно публиковали ведущие мировые СМИ.
"Быть свидетелем истории последние восемь лет было для меня честью всей жизни", – сказал Соуза, комментируя свою последнюю подборку итоговых фотографий Барака Обамы на Medium.
Барак Обама был не первым президентом, с которым работал Соуза. С 1983 по 1989 год он фотографировал Рональда Рейгана, а в 2004 году был официальным фотографом во время его похорон.
Рейгана и Обаму объединяет не только фотограф, но и коммуникационные навыки. Не каждый современный политик может быть простым человеком, а им это удавалось. Они не боялись давать людям прикасаться к себе и общаться с ними на общечеловеческие темы. Рейган вел себя так же непринужденно, как и Обама. Даже мог шутить о ядерной войне.
В своих фотографиях Соуза пытался показывать президентов простыми людьми, без высокомерия и опасности.
В 2005 году Соуза работал на Chicago Tribune, когда он начал фотографировать Барака Обаму, нового сенатора от штата Иллинойс.
"Я любил его работы. Мало того, у него еще и удивительные глаза. Он стал большим другом, которому я доверяю", – говоритОбама о своем фотографе.
В 2009 году новый президент предложил Соузе работу. До этого он был доцентом фотожурналистики в Школе визуальной коммуникации Огайского университета. "Я никогда не стремился заниматься этим снова, но представилась хорошая возможность", – рассказывает Соуза.
Обычно такая должность означает долгий рабочий день. Всегда нужно быть рядом с президентом. Будь то встреча премьер-министра Италии, телефонные переговоры в Овальном кабинете или раздача угощений на Хэллоуин от президента и его супруги.
"В основном я ухожу тогда, когда хочу. У президента нет с этим проблем. Он понимает, как получить нужный снимок, не будучи навязчивым", – рассказывает Соуза.
Сотрудники администрации часто приводили своих детей в Белый дом. Тогда можно было услышать президентский визг.
"Сначала я был в недоумении, что президент Соединенных Штатов лежал в Овальном кабинете с младенцем на руках", – признается Соуза.
Он рассказывает, что вторгаться в личное пространство президента помогает интуиция, но нужно быть всегда готовым сделать важный снимок, чтобы не упустить момент. Соуза объездил с Обамой весь мир, захватив объективом официальные и частные моменты поездок президента. Вне семьи мало у кого был такой доступ к Обаме на протяжении этих двух сроков, как у Соузы.
"Я не думаю, что в Белом доме есть кто-то еще, кто имеет такое воздействие на него, как я", – признается Соуза. – Я имею в виду, что его может знать команда Национальной безопасности. Его знают по поведению в ситуационной комнате и по напряженным переговорам в Овальном кабинете. Но они не видят, как он общается со своей дочерью после работы или в субботу. С документальной точки зрения, я единственный человек, который видит его во всех этих ролях. Я постоянно пытаюсь показать, какой он человек, а не только президент".
Важную роль в работе Соузы играют социальные медиа. Он рассказывает, что начал работу в Белом доме одновременно с массовым появлением социальных сетей. "Например, до начала работы нашей администрации Instagram вообще не существовало", –
говорит он. В мае 2009 года Соуза начал использовать Flickr в качестве официального канала для публикации фотографий Белого дома.
Работа Соузы существенно изменилась со времен его сотрудничества с Рейганом. "Белым домом активно поощрялось мое желание публиковать фотографии в Instagram и Flickr. Это дает общественности возможности увидеть документальную часть моей работы сейчас, не ожидая окончания его президентства", – рассказывает фотограф Обамы.
20 января состоится инаугурация нового президента США Дональда Трампа. В свой последний день на посту Барак Обама надеется, что Пит Соуза сможете захватить его большую улыбку. "Я иду в отпуск", – говорит Обама.
