В американському штаті Каліфорнія поліцейський не зміг продовжувати переслідування підозрюваного, тому що його патрульний електромобіль Tesla Model S 85 вийшов на дорогу з розрядженою батареєю.

Як повідомляє CNN, офіцер поліції переслідував підозрюваного у вчиненні злочину у місті Санта-Клара. \Останній намагався втекти від нього на високій швидкості.

В ході гонитви поліцейський повідомив, що заряду батареї в його автомобілі вистачить приблизно на 6 миль (близько 9,5 км), і він може втратити підозрюваного в будь-який момент. Гонитву продовжили інші підрозділи поліції, але невдовзі змушені були припинити її з міркувань безпеки.

Пізніше патрульні знайшли покинутий автомобіль підозрюваного в Сан-Хосе. Причини відсутності заряду в поліцейському електромобілі точно невідомі. За словами представника Департаменту поліції Фремонта, таке трапляється час від часу.

Зокрема, якщо офіцери повертаються зі зміни ділянку для подачі звіту, і більше не повертаються на вулиці, аби зарядити авто. Поліція Фремонта тестує Tesla в рамках пілотної шестимісячної програми. В ділянці запевнили, що інцидент не вплине на думку поліції про придатність автомобіля до патрульної служби.
