Технологія розпізнавання осіб в поліцейських камерах помилково розпізнала 26 каліфорнійських конгресменів як злочинців.

Про це повідомляє видання Digger з посиланням на Американську спілку захисту громадянських свобод (філія у Північній Каліфорнії). Там провели розслідування та оприлюднили такі дані під час прес-конференції.

В основному система помилково розпізнавала людей з темними відтінками шкіри. Рік тому сталася схожа ситуація: тоді 28 членів Конгресу були помилково визначені як злочинці.

На прес-конференції в Сан-Франциско представник спілки Філ Тінг, якого система також ідентифікувала як злочинця, заявив, що експеримент з розпізнаванням людей «не готовий до масового використання правоохоронними органами».

Незалежно від точності розпізнавання, такі камери масово порушують громадянські права каліфорнійців, вважає юрист спілки Метт Кейглі.

Раніше пан Тінг брав участь в розробці закону про відповідальність телекамер, який забороняє використання технологій розпізнавання осіб і біометричних систем відеоспостереження в поліцейських камерах.

Якщо законопроект буде прийнятий, Каліфорнія стане найбільшим штатом, що заборонив поліцейським використовувати камери. Інші штати — Нью-Гемпшир і Орегон — вже заборонили їх в 2017 році.
