Інцедент стався під час візиту громади до мера із питанням щодо незаконного сміттєзвалища на одному з комунальних підприємств міста. 

Під час зустрічі один із чоловіків назвав Кучму "злодієм та бандитом". У відповідь мер вдарив його в обличчя. Також, міський голова додав, що буде бити кожного, хто посміє назвати його злодієм. 

Зазначається, що питання з вивезенням сміття є проблематичним для Дрогобича. Жителі передмістя тривалий час скаржаться на роботу сміттєзвалища в районі селища Брониця. На їхню думку, воно працює незаконно, впливаючи на екологічну ситуацію. У міськраді стверджують, що порушення закону в роботі сміттєзвалища немає.
