Файл зі списком осіб, яким належить відзнака, разом з точними приватними адресами з'явився на офіційному сайті британського уряду.

За словами урядовців, його було видно близько години. Представники уряду заявили, що встановлюватимуть причину помилки. "Ми приносимо вибачення всім потерпілим і перевіряємо, як це сталося", - заявили в уряді.

Окрім адреси Елтона Джона в списку виявилися, зокрема, адреси колишного директора державного обвинувачення Елісон Сондерс, колишнього лідера Консервативної партії Яна Дункана Сміта, актриси і співачки Олівії Ньютон-Джон, кухаря і ведучої Надії Хусейн, а також багатьох інших спортсменів, чиновників, політиків і поліцейських.

Список з 1097 осіб, які 1 січня отримають від Єлизавети II звання та нагороди, був створений і схвалений, коли пост прем'єр-міністра Британії займала Тереза Мей. Нагороди присвоюють за визначні заслуги перед Британією.
