Буш, якого готують в кандидати на участь у президентських виборах, бажаючи показати себе активним, відкритим і технічно підкованим політиком, 10 лютого розмістив на своєму сайті переписку з виборцями за всі вісім років на посту губернатора. Разом з нею у відкритому доступі виявилися імена, дати народження і номери соціального страхування його співрозмовників.
 
Глава компанії із захисту персональних даних Identity Finder Тодд Файнмен тут же забив на сполох: «Тепер понад 12 тисяч осіб можуть стати жертвами шахрайства».
 
У четвер, 12 лютого, майже всі листи за винятком кількох сотень були видалені з сайту.
