Незважаючи на те, що два роки президент США Барак Обама заявив, що має намір припинити стеження за головами дружніх держав, деяких топ-політиків Білий Дім залишив під "пильним наглядом".

На першому місці в списку прем'єр-міністр Ізраїлю Беньямін Нетаньяху, також стежать за президентом Туреччини Тайіпом Ердоганом. При цьому роботу спецслужб у напрямку Нетаньяху Обама вважає такою, що "відповідає інтересам забезпечення національної безпеки".

На тлі переговорів щодо іранської ядерної програми і перехоплення розмов ізраїльських політиків у США виникла підозра, що за Конгресом також стежать, а Ізраїль може зірвати домовленості.

В адміністрації Обами існує так званий "захищений список" лідерів держав, за якими США не стежать. До нього входять президент Франції Франсуа Олланд, канцлер Німеччини Ангела Меркель і ряд інших глав країн НАТО.
