«Премьер-министр (Прают Чан-Оча — ИФ) ожидает, что выборы состоятся в сентябре 2016 года», — заявил журналистам представитель правительства.

Как отмечает Straits Times, Чан-Оча высказал мнение, что выборы пройдут после референдума по новой конституции страны, которая в настоящий момент находится в разработке.

Год назад в Таиланде произошел военный переворот. Тогда военные объявили о роспуске сената и задержании ряда политических и общественных деятелей, в том числе и экс-премьера Таиланда Йинглак Чинават, которая позднее предстала перед судом.

Этим событиям предшествовали массовые антиправительственные акции протеста.

В апреле этого года Чан-Оча отменил военное положение в Таиланде.
